I've been a fan of the Animal Crossing Bells series since Wild World, which came out in 2005. I was around 11 or so.
I like New Horizons, but the problem that a lot of players have is the continuing issue that the creature personalities are a good deal more dull compared to older games. If you see footage from the Gamecube version, you will observe that animals were more"hot" with regard to the way they spoke to you. Oftentimes, they were actually quite impolite - alerting you if you refused to assist them/do some thing for them. This was toned down when Wild World was released, but animals weren't overly friendly like they're in New Leaf/New Horizons. Friendships needed to be developed over time, and it was gratifying to note once an animal you wished to befriend was steadily warming up for you (finally giving you their image once you had been best buddies ).
I believe the island development tools in New Horizons are great, but my main reason for playing the game would be to befriend my critters. There's no challenge to it because everyone is actually friendly off-the-bat, even the personalities such as cranky/snooty (where they are meant to be stand-offish with you at first). It also feels like there's a good deal of repetitious dialog in NH, in which this wasn't true from the old games (not including City Folk or New Leaf).
They've also apparently removed a feature where animals would visit your home at a specific time. It was a wonderful method for players who do not have the capacity to go online to get visitors look at their home. There was also an outcome not to turning up on time: it would make the animal upset and your friendship would take a slight hit.
I really enjoy the tagging system, but I understand that some folks really don't enjoy it. I think that the biggest complaint I've noticed is that golden tools have lost their prestige because they're no more unbreakable like from the last games. That's pretty much what made them special, so it seems a bit pointless to craft themgiven that golden nuggets are a rarer resource.
I think a good deal of dislike with the cheap Animal Crossing New Horizons Items crafting system is not the crafting itself but more like the shortage of QOL stuff in it. Largely how it wastes your time with not having the ability to craft multiple things at once.
