My first girst time running a campaign about 3 decades ago I wanted to attempt to integrate the feel of RuneScape into our dnd match (I had never played at this stage ) so I wrote up around 10 abilities players can level up on their char's spare time and it'd give them advantages when interacting with similar skill sets, however it was just to much, after about 3 sessions we all forgot about the extra list of skills and let it die off. Im glad to say we ran that effort for over a year akd then another campign I dm'd to get amother year amd today I am a participant in a numenera group with the same guys.
It could do the job. Open the series on them living their lives out and do a little world-building. Then just get straight into the contract with the stranger and their conquest. They assist with the Saradomin campaign to conquer Southern Forinthry, and then are sent to Morytania. Letting the series end in the same period as the God Wars. Finish things off with Guthix kicking out all the gods and there you go.
RuneScape legit could make an wonderful television show. It's such a planet, and such deeply established lore. It would be amazing, if it had a game of thrones budget, my god, with Witcher caliber production. Story episodes could follow Quests and boss/raids. Filler episodes could only be the show adventurer"skilling" or other shenanigans. Imagine an entire episode. Through some magic fuckery, people return to life unharmed. Just an gore fest of an episode, with the gruesome effects, for a simple game of capture the flag to get some bloody tickets.
Imagine an incident about a guy in khakis making a line of campfires and visiting the bank, and standing before a tree for hours on end. Man that's compelling content. So many of the more lighthearted quests will match that tone, and even the ones always have some of the early 2000s internet comedy that is amazing. I would very much prefer to see a variant of One Favor. A non-stop barrage of the main character getting more and more pissed off as he can dumb tasks that require tasks to complete.
I begun playing OSRS again about a month ago to. I initially started playing like 2007 when I was around 12 and was obsessed with RuneScape. Saw it was 1-2 months ago downloaded by the app in my phone one day and fell in love again started carrying it serious! Essentially every day I play with mobile and pc now and I'm balls deep in working on a range tank primary account that is wonderful. Gon na sometime this week be doing monkey madness lol. Its a great game.
